9th November - Group Organisation

Today's lesson was quite an important session as we started talking about a big topic on psychology. Today's session was about Emotion Intelligence (EI). EI concentrates mainly on how you control and express your emotions.

Some information I found from https://www.psychologytoday.com/basics/emotional-intelligence has 3 important pointers of what EI is all about.

Emotional intelligence is the ability to identify and manage your own emotions and the emotions of others. It is generally said to include 3 skills:
1. Emotional awareness, including the ability to identify your own emotions and those of others;
2. The ability to harness emotions and apply them to tasks like thinking and problems solving;
3. The ability to manage emotions, including the ability to regulate your own emotions, and the ability to cheer up or calm down another person.

29th October

This session we continued the work with yoga and with this session we used a woman found on YouTube under the name of Lesley Fightmaster. In this session Lesley talked us through a fast paced class of Ashtanga. This type of yoga last for just over an hour and concentrates yourself on strength and determination in what you want to achieve.

After Yoga continued work on Miss Julie. By this point me and Alex had gone through a bit of a rough patch but were able to put it aside to continue our rehearsal with a professional face on.

27th October

This session was another opportunity to perform our narratology piece and get more feedback on to improve. The rest of the lesson was used to crack on with our contact improvisation work. In this session we repeated what we did on the previous session. Getting more used to how to use our spine in different ways. This time learning how to use our arms and legs and how we could fluidly move them around in relation to where our spine is taking us.

It's at this point where I am starting to understand more about what the art is trying to prove. With this, I am starting to enjoy it more. I'm interested to see what work I will be able to create at the end of this.

26th October

Once again, due to the close deadlines coming up for performance portfolio, we used this lesson as an opportunity to show everyone what we had so far in our narratology project.

22nd October

Today's performance strategies lesson was cancelled due to the performance portfolio work due on a closer date to what we thought. So instead, we continued to crack on with that work instead.

Introduction to Contact Improvisation

For the next number of weeks, we will be putting ourselves out of our comfort zones and trying something we have never done before which is contact improvisation. Leanny (who will be our tutor for the next few weeks) will be taking us.

In our first session we started off laying on the floor recognising where our spine was in relation to the floor. We tried exercises that pressed our spine down to the floor and away from the floor. To expand our awareness on what we can do with our spine, we started moving side to side to give us that realisation that we can literally do anything with that one vital part of our body.

Being honest, for the first session, I had no idea why we was doing this and what we were actually going to get out of doing this.
